Executive Director of the National Tea and Coffee Development Board Dr Bishnu Prasad Bhattarai said the farmers should get minimum fixed price of green tea leaves designated by Suryodaya municipality. He said this when the tea farmers have initiated struggle demanding increase in the price of green tea leaves as well as compliance on part of industry with the municipality-designated price. He however expressed readiness to hold dialogue with the tea industries if the latter have come across any problems.
Farmers have resorted to agitation after the industries provided with low price in various pretexts. The farmers came together in unison to stir against the price injustice meted out to them by industries. As part of the struggle, the agitating farmers have submitted a six-point memorandum to the municipality to pile pressure on the implementation of minimum price. The farmers have demanded full-fledge implementation of Quality Tea Production Guideline Implementation Work Procedure, 2075 BS and distribution of relief to lockdown survivor farmers.
