Kathmandu. Goods worth Rs 694.05 billion were imported through Birgunj border point in the first nine months of the current fiscal year. According to the Birgunj Customs Office, imports in the first nine months of the current fiscal year amounted to Rs 80.44 billion or 13 per cent more than the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.

In the first nine months of the last fiscal year, goods worth Rs 613.61 billion were imported. Udaya Singh Bista, information officer at the Birgunj Customs Office, said that the import of goods through the border point has increased in the current fiscal year.

Five types of petroleum products worth Rs 148.16 billion have been imported through this border point in the first nine months of the current fiscal year. In the same period of the last fiscal year, imports of petroleum products amounted to Rs 140.10 billion.

Imports of iron and iron goods amounted to Rs 62.26 billion in the first nine months of the current fiscal year. In the same period of the last fiscal year, iron and iron goods worth Rs 55.09 billion were imported.

Crude oil worth Rs 50.4 billion was imported in the first nine months of the current fiscal year. In the same period last year, the country imported crude oil worth Rs 38.15 billion.

Imports of machinery and spare parts amounted to Rs 49.13 billion in the first nine months of the current fiscal year. In the first nine months of the last fiscal year, machinery and spare parts worth Rs 40.57 billion were imported.

In the first nine months of the current fiscal year, imports of electric machinery equipment and their spare parts amounted to Rs 34.19 billion, compared to Rs 30.14 billion in the same period of the last fiscal year. The office collected Rs 177.66 billion in revenue in the first nine months of the current fiscal year.
