Kathmandu. The demolition of the houses built on government land in front of the High Court Tulsipur-Butwal bench at Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City-4 has begun.

The Tulsipur Butwal bench of the High Court was given the right to occupy the land that was registered in the name of the then Lumbini Zonal Magistrate after the Zonal Magistrate’s Office was scrapped.

The houses constructed in 2 bigha 5 kattha and 14 dhur area of the erstwhile plot number 396 (currently plot no 7, 8, 12, 61, 13 and 4) of the erstwhile ward number 6 of ward no. 6 are being removed.

The Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City had issued a notice through miking on Saturday evening directing the removal of structures built on government land.

Narishwor Sharma Poudel, chairperson of Ward No. 4, said that investigation is underway to find out whether the structures of Butwal Bar Association, Province Chief’s Office and other organizations fall under the same category.

Twelve years ago, an attempt was made to vacate the land. Most of the huts built in the area are in operation as tea shops and restaurants.
