Kathmandu. Chairman of the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) Dr. Gopal Prasad Bhatta has said that the ‘short selling’ system will be implemented in the capital market soon. Bhatta said this while speaking at a meeting of the Finance Committee.
Stating that there is a belief that the stock market in Nepal should always be , he said that the capital market of any country cannot only go up continuously.
Complaining that unnecessary pressure is being put on the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) when the market is down, Bhatta clarified that the role of the Board is not to determine the direction of the market but to provide a fair ‘playing field.
According to Bhatta, after the implementation of the ‘short selling’ system, the problem of agitation will end when the market falls. After the implementation of this system, investors who anticipate a fall in the market will be able to borrow and sell the shares, and after the price decreases, they will be able to buy the same shares and return them.
Investors who expect the market to rise will be able to buy shares like they do now and sell them when the price rises.Similarly, Chairman Bhatta has claimed that after this system, the one-sided psychology that the market must increase will change and an environment will be created for the investors to make decisions on the basis of their own study and analysis.
He also said that the responsibility of the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) is to regulate the market, regulate and ensure a level playing field.
Bhatta also said that necessary policy provisions are being brought to control the spread of rumors in the market. He said that the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) would work in coordination with the concerned government bodies regarding property investigation, inspection and control of financial crimes.
