Kathmandu. Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan has proposed to make the night bus service free of cost in the Kathmandu Valley. Maharjan said this while speaking at the ‘Kathmandu Valley Night Bus Service Expansion’.
He said that the night bus service should be made free for the workers and low-income groups who use public transport at night.
Maharjan has proposed that all the 18 local levels of the Kathmandu Valley should bear the cost of operating the night bus together. He said that Kathmandu and Lalitpur Metropolitan City are ready to bear a comparatively large share of .
He said that for now, the break-even situation of the night bus service should be kept in the status quo and a definite cut-off date should be fixed . He proposes that the night bus service should be announced free from April 1 or any suitable day. He claims that if such a system can be implemented, there will be a significant change in the public transport sector.
Maharjan said that the management and expansion of night bus service as an alternative to public transport should be emphasized as it may take a long time to resume metro rail.
