KATHMANDU: As the third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) draws closer, the upgradation and management of the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur has reached the final stage. With about three weeks left for the start of the tournament, the necessary infrastructure construction and management work has been expedited.

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) is preparing to provide conducive environment to spectators, players, media persons and distinguished guests by correcting managerial weaknesses seen in the past editions.

CAN has said that this time the experience of the spectators has been given special priority as each edition of the tournament is becoming more organized and comprehensive. The goal is to complete all the work that needs to be done on the field by Dashain and be fully prepared for the competition.

Since the crowd of spectators in the NPL matches is high, efforts are being made to increase the capacity of the spectators by making maximum use of the available space. Attention has been paid to the management to provide a comfortable environment to the spectators who reach the ground by buying tickets from the entry to the time they return after watching the game.

In the last edition, the spectators had to face the problem of inadequate toilet facilities and dust during the movement. This time, necessary improvement work has been taken to prevent such problems from repeating. Also, preparations are being made to make the overall management more effective by adding some new structures to the ground.

Between Dashain-Tihar, NPL

This year’s NPL is being held between Dashain and Tihar. Although it is expected that the presence of spectators may be affected during the festival season, the enthusiasm of the spectators is not expected to decrease due to the strong support base of Nepali cricket.

CAN has said that the schedule of international cricket, the timing of other franchise leagues and the availability of foreign players have been made the main basis while determining the date of the tournament. Keeping these aspects in mind, the time between Dashain and Tihar has been considered suitable for conducting the tournament.

For the third edition, the participating teams have intensified the process of signing famous players of international cricket. The participation of foreign players is expected to increase the attraction of the tournament and attract spectators to the ground.

The organizers believe that the opportunity to see the famous players watching on television live at the International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur will also increase the enthusiasm of the audience. This is expected to help expand the popularity of Nepali cricket and make the tournament more competitive.
