In Karnali, which has always been facing a shortage of textbooks even when the academic session is about to end, this year, textbooks have been delivered to all the districts before the start of school admissions. Jamuna Dhakal, chief of the provincial office of Janak Education Materials Center, Surkhet, said that the textbooks have been delivered to various districts of Karnali since March 14. “One million books were brought for 10 districts of Karnali. She said, “Books have already reached many places and are being sent to the left out districts.” ’
She said that the textbooks were sent to the mountainous districts of Karnali in the first phase and to the remaining districts in the second phase. She said that the textbooks were distributed in Dolpa and Humla from March 14, Mugu from March 17 to 16, Jumla from March 17 to 18, Kalikot from March 19 to 20, Jajarkot from April 21 to 22, Dailekh from April 23 to 24 and Surkhet for three days on March 25, 26 and 27.
The government has decided to start the enrollment campaign from April 25 and classes from April 21. The Education Regulations 2078 have stated that the new academic session will start from April 2 and the classes will be started from April 16. Some local levels of Karnali have already started the admission campaign. It is believed that the students will be able to read on time if they get the textbooks. Janak Education has already sent textbooks to all the districts, so there is a stock of seven thousand units in the godown, so Janak Education is preparing to send it as per the need.
The enrollment campaign has already started in the hilly districts of Karnali. Chhayanath Rara Municipality of Mugu has started the admission campaign across the municipality from April 20. Preparations are being made to start the enrollment campaign from April 9 to 15 and classes from April 16, said Bibek BK, chief of the education department of the municipality. Mudke Chula, Shey Phoksundo Rural Municipality and Sani Bheri Municipality of Dolpa have already started the enrollment campaign.
Some local governments will not close schools on Sunday
Some local levels in Karnali have decided not to give a holiday for two days in a week given by the government. They have decided not to give a holiday on Sundays as the constitution has the right to look after education up to the secondary level. According to the local level people’s representatives, the local level has the right to manage education up to the basic and secondary level as per the constitution and prevailing laws, so they have decided to admit and operate schools according to their regular educational calendar.

Thuli Bheri Municipality of Dolpa has also decided to resume classes without implementing the government’s decision. According to Nanda Prasad Chaulagain, chairman of Tatopani Rural Municipality, all the 29 community schools in the municipality will be fully operational from April 29. Sinja Rural Municipality has started regular classes in all the schools in the municipality from April 22.
Although the Government of Nepal has decided to start the enrollment campaign from April 26 for the academic year 2083 and start regular classes from April 21, Kanak Sundari, Sinja and Tatopani rural municipalities have started the academic session program according to their own academic calendar. A meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Government of Nepal on March 26 had decided to give public holidays for two days a week on Saturday and Sunday.
