93 people fall ill, 50 treated after attending wedding party in Chitwan

Kathmandu. The number of people suffering from food poisoning has reached 93 after attending a wedding reception at Chautari Party Palace at Dharmachowk of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-4. Of them, 50 are undergoing treatment at various hospitals.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Govinda Puri, chief of the District Police Office, the people who had a feast on May 23 started falling ill. They are being treated at Bharatpur Hospital, Chitwan Medical College and College of Medical Sciences. Some of them are undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital and Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital and other health facilities in Kathmandu.

“Of the 93 people who have fallen ill so far, 50 are undergoing treatment. Two of them were treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) but shifted to the ward after their condition improved. All the patients are said to be out of danger,” SP Puri said.

Two members of the party palace have been arrested after the incident. SP Puri said that the Food Technology and Quality Control Division Office will carry out further study in this regard.

Pramod Chandra Poudel, chief of the Division Office, said that the doctors had verbally stated that they were ill due to poisonous food and they would carry out investigation into the remaining issues.

Symptoms of high blood pressure, high fever and diarrhoea were found in the patient.
