Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Nepali Communist Party leader Barshaman Pun has said the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has been collaborating with the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in the campaign of good governance, transparency and anti-corruption since the past and would continue to do so in the days ahead. Addressing the inaugural session of the first general convention of the Rastriya Samajwadi Party (RSP) at Bharatpur of Chitwan today, the former Prime Minister expressed the belief that the party was with us in the agenda of ending corruption and mismanagement and good governance and would remain so in the days to come.
Stating that the nation was keenly watching the general convention of the RSP, he said the leadership, ideology, strategy and political line to be chosen from the general convention would also affect the national politics.
Stating that the RSP was moving ahead for the first time with a nationwide organizational structure, he said the general convention was historic and decisive for the party.
Pun claimed that there are many similarities between the Maoist Center and the RSP. According to him, although the background and style of struggle are different, the two parties are close on the issues of change, social transformation and good governance.
Recalling that both the parties had collaborated in favour of democratic values, justice and good governance in difficult times, he suggested that efforts to restore order should be within the ambit of the constitution and laws. However, admitting that there are some policy, behavioral and stylistic differences, Pun has expressed the hope that the RSP should come up with a clearer commitment towards the federal democratic republican system with social justice.
He also expressed the belief that the first general convention would address the questions and doubts raised against the RSP on the constitution, democracy and the established system. Stating that the RSP has garnered remarkable public support in a short span of time, he said the participation of the new generation and the emergence of new political force have raised hope among the Nepali people.
Stating that the people can give power in democracy and take it back if necessary, he said that the majority should learn humility and the minority should learn patience. “Yesterday we had the numbers, we had others in between, today we have them. “In a democracy, the government and the numbers are temporary, but the rules, processes and institutions should be permanent,” he said. Extending best wishes for the success of the general convention, Pun expressed the belief that the RSP would move ahead with a more organized and clear political direction by electing capable leadership.
