Kathmandu. Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Ashika Tamang has drawn the attention of the government towards the serious problem of boiler chicken farmers in different parts of the country due to the rumour of bird flu.

Speaking in the House of Representatives on Monday, she said that the fear of bird flu has created a situation where the demand for chicken meat and egg will decrease, market price will fall and huge investment of farmers will be at risk.

“At present, boiler poultry farmers in different parts of the country are facing serious problems due to the fear of bird flu in the market,” she said. This has created a situation where the demand for chicken meat and eggs will fall, the market price will fall and the huge investment of farmers will be at risk. ’

She also objected to the information being disseminated through the ringtone of Nepal Telecom at a time when the process of bird flu confirmation was underway.

Lawmaker Tamang stressed the need for the government to clarify whether the infection was confirmed on the basis of actual laboratory test or the information was issued based on mere suspicion.

“While the confirmation process was in progress, a notice was also circulated on the ringtone of Nepal Telecom that Nepali farmers would be killed. In this context, it is necessary to clarify whether the actual laboratory tests have been confirmed on the basis of evidence or have been issued on the basis of mere suspicion,” she said.

She drew the serious attention of the government and bodies concerned to take immediate and effective steps for the protection of farmers, to disseminate information based on truth and facts and to prevent the farmers’ hard work, investment and livelihood from being unduly put at risk.

“I would like to draw the serious attention of the government and bodies concerned to take immediate effective steps for the protection of the farmers and to disseminate factual information so that the hard work of the farmers and their livelihood is not unnecessarily endangered,” she said.
