Rs 52 crore relief to farmers affected by bird flu within a week

Kathmandu. The Department of Livestock Services (DoLIVE) is preparing to provide Rs 520 million to the farmers within a week as compensation for the destruction of birds and livestock in course of controlling the disease in 11 districts affected by the disease. The Department is preparing to provide 75 per cent relief amount to the owners concerned for the loss of birds, eggs and feed destroyed by the farmers in course of disease control.

Department Spokesperson Mukul Upadhyay said that the amount would be paid to the bank accounts of the owners who have claimed the demand after the damages of the birds, bird products and poultry products have been proved and the amount will be paid within a week. According to him, the farmers who have not been able to receive compensation by mid-July will be provided the amount in the new fiscal year.

According to the Bird Flu Control Regulations, relief will be distributed to the farmers after assessing the damage. Department’s Spokesperson Upadhyay urged the farmers concerned to submit an application with the District Livestock Service Office with all evidences of the destruction of fowls and poultry products.

Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kavrepalanchowk, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Mahottari, Bara, Chitwan and Nawalparasi districts have been mostly affected by the disease. So far, around 700,000 birds, 1.1 million eggs and 300,000 kilogrammes of feed have been destroyed and the economic loss estimated at around Rs 700 million has been incurred.
