Kathmandu. The Department of Passports has successfully conducted the biggest data migration in Nepal’s history and brought the passport service into operation through the new passport production and management system.

Issuing a notice on Monday, the Department of Passports under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared that the new system has been implemented from July 5, 2083. According to the Department, the passport details of about one crore Nepali citizens have been safely transferred to the new system.

The Department has stated that there may be some technical challenges, sluggishness in the system and minor delay in passport distribution in the initial phase after the operation of the new IT system. According to the department, such a situation is natural in the initial phase of the operation of the new system.

In view of the possible problems, the department’s technical team, employees and experts of the company developing the system are working round the clock in monitoring, testing and improvement of the system.

The department has said that it is fully capable and committed to resolve the problems seen at the earliest and long-term.

In the initial phase of the new system, the department has requested to apply only to those who need passport. The department believes that the support of the service recipients would make the new system more stable and effective.

The Department has also urged the service seekers to base only the information and news published through the official media of the Department or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the information related to the passport service.

“The Department of Passport is always committed to providing efficient, efficient and reliable service to the citizens of Nepal,” the statement reads.
