Kathmandu. The number of demat account openers in Nepal has crossed 80 lakh. According to CDS and Clearing Limited (CDSC), the number of demat account openings has reached 80,09,623 as of July 26. It is one-fourth of the total population of Nepal.

A demat account is required to apply for a primary share issue (IPO) and buy and sell shares in the secondary market.

Out of the total demat accounts opened so far, 5 to 6 lakh accounts have been repeated. Most of the accounts are used only to fill IPOs and about 20 to 30 lakh accounts are without shares.

In the same period, the number of users of the ‘Mero Share’ app has reached 70 lakh 96 thousand 83. Of them, only 51,48,893 are active users.

Similarly, there are about 47 lakh trading management system (TMS) account openers in the secondary market in Nepal. Of them, only about 4 lakh are active, CDSC sources said. The number of active investors in the stock market has increased compared to the past. However, due to the lack of expected policies and effective regulation and monitoring, the stock market has been in a weak position.

However, Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen) held a meeting with the investors a few days ago and Chairman of the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) Dr. Investors are optimistic that the commitment made by Gopal Prasad Bhatta will increase the stock market.
