Case filed against 3 members of a family for misusing wallets including eSewa worth Rs 2 billion

Kathmandu. A case has been filed against three members of the same family for misusing the digital wallet with eSewa and hundi. The case has been filed against Rajendra Prasad Rijal, a resident of Satyadevi of Dhading and currently living in Nagarjun, Kathmandu, and his brother Pavita Upadhyay at the Kathmandu District Court.

After a length y investigation by the Central Investigation Bureau of Police (CIB), a case has been filed against them under the Nepal Ra stra Bank Act.

According to the charge sheet filed by the District Government Attorney’s Office, they have been accused of illegal transaction worth Rs 1.99 billion.The CIB investigation revealed that they collected money from the Nepalese living in Russia } and illegally in Nepal.

What is

The accused, Suman Rijal, is currently in Russia. The investigation revealed that he collected foreign currency from Nepali workers in Russia and managed the equivalent amount in Nepal from the bank accounts of Rajendra Prasad Rijal (brother) and Pabita Upadhya ya. Pavita is also in Russia. However, his bank account in Nepal was run by Rajendra (brother-in-law).

They have been transacting through hundi } by keeping the labor and earnings of Nepalese living in Russia outside the legal banking system system, according to the indictment.

The CIB’s investigation has also revealed that used the ‘mirror transaction method to keep the Russian money in Russia and settle the money in Nepal . Rajendra has admitted that he did this under the direction of his brother Suman. 

So much so that Suman Rijal used to pay him a salary of Rs 25,000 per month and used to do hundi only on the basis of that salary ।

Hundi Misuse of Wallet

Investigations have revealed that the illegal hundi transactions were carried out by Rajendra, Suman and and and other digital wallets. 

On the basis of the statement made by Rajendra and his statement of Bank, the said illegal Hundi transaction Sanima Bank, NIC Asia Bank, According to the investigation, he also uses a digital wallet including Bankhit and bank and eSewa, {{} and PhonePe.

Widespread use of WhatsApp, security code ‘Note Number’

It has also been revealed that the gang used the messaging app WhatsApp to communicate and plan all transactions. According to the police, they used WhatsApp to keep the illegal hundi transactions safe and confidential. 

on the other hand, They used Indian currency as security code, the indictment said. Investigations have also revealed that the photo and number of Indian or Nepali notes were used as security codes to identify people who come to receive ordeliver money. 

They also used to send a photo of the note through WhatsApp. The investigation has also revealed that the money was taken or given only to those who received the same notes sent through WhatsApp.

The petitioners have demanded forfeiture of the total amount of Rs 1.98 billion against them and to impose a fine of up to three times the amount or imprisonment for seven years or both as per Section 96 of the Nepal Ra stra Bank ( Act, 2058.
