Kathmandu. Bidur Municipality has decided to provide money for room rent to the people affected by the Bhotekoshi floods. The 134th meeting of the municipal executive has decided to provide rent amount to the locals who do not have suitable houses due to the floods.

A meeting of the municipality held under the chairmanship of Mayor Rajan Shrestha took the decision to provide Rs 10,000 to each family as room rent for the flood-affected people.

The municipality has decided to provide Rs 10,000 per family to the flood-affected people for shortening their stay at the holding centre and encouraging the displaced people to rehabilitate them.

According to Mayor Shrestha, it has been decided to provide the house rent amount and also provide food, clothes, kitchen utensils, daily use hygiene and other items necessary for the family as relief. The meeting of the municipality executive has also warned that action will be taken as per the prevailing law if anyone is found charging more than the prevailing rent rate while renting or renting a room.

Stating that it has been around two weeks since the floods have been affected by the floods, the municipality has emphasized on the construction of temporary shelters in collaboration with all three tiers of government, national and international organizations and donors.

“It is not possible to construct new houses in the same place immediately as the houses were damaged due to the floods. Announcing the decision of the meeting, Mayor Shrestha said, “Instead of providing immediate relief after the disaster, we should mobilize support related to sustainable consumption materials and residential purposes.” ’

The meeting has decided to request the concerned district and local municipality to make arrangements for the management of the flood-affected people in the holding centers operated within Bidur Municipality. As nearly half of the people living in the holding centers operated in Bidur Municipality are from other districts or municipalities, the concerned municipalities and districts have set a target to move towards the arrangement of permanent residence by removing the stay of the holding center.
