Kathmandu. A large number of devotees have gathered at Gokarna in Kathmandu on the occasion of Kushe Aunsi, the day of the father’s face. Devotees thronged the Gokarneshwor area since early morning to remember the deceased father and pay respect to his living father.

On the day of Kushe Aunsi, there is a religious tradition of performing Shraddha, Tarpan and Pind Daan in the name of the deceased ancestors by visiting the premises of the Gokarneshwor Mahadev Temple. Devotees coming from far and wide have paid homage to their ancestors by taking a bath and offering tarpan on the banks of the Bagmati River.

On this day, it is also customary to honor the living father by giving him sweet dishes and new clothes. Those who do not have a father go to various pilgrimage places including Gokarna in the memory of the deceased ancestor and perform shraddha and tarpan.

For Hindus, Kushe Aunsi is considered as an important day to remember ancestors and respect family relationships. According to religious beliefs, on this day, it is believed that by performing shraddha and tarpan in Gokarna, the ancestors get peace.

Kushe Aunsi is also known as Rishitarpani Aunsi and Gokarna Aunsi. On this day, there is a tradition of bringing Kush used in religious ceremonies in the house. Since Kush is considered a sacred plant, it has special significance in religious rituals.

With the increase in the number of devotees in Gokarna, security personnel have been deployed for security and management in the temple and river banks.
