Kathmandu. Dol Prasad Aryal, vice-chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RPP), who was born on August 23, 2031 in Jwalamukhi Rural Municipality of Dhading district, has been elected the 10th Speaker of the House of Representatives.

He was elected to the House of Representatives from Kathmandu-9 in the election held on March 4. Aryal has already served as the Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security.

Newly elected Speaker Aryal had conducted studies, research, employment and business in various countries including Japan. He has been active in tourism, education and financial sectors for the past 25 years with the belief that something can be done in the country.

Aryal had played a significant role in establishing the Rastriya Swatantra Party in 2079 BS. He is the founding vice-president of the Rastriya Swatantra Party.

He had made notable contributions to the protection of workers’ rights, procedural reforms in foreign employment system and social security during his previous term as the Labour Minister.

Senior-most member of the House of Representatives, Arjun Narsingh KC, announced the election of Aryal to the post of Speaker unopposed. President Ram Chandra Poudel administered the oath of office and secrecy to newly-elected Speaker Aryal on Sunday.

Aryal was elected unopposed to the post of Speaker of the House of Representatives after other political parties did not file candidacies. The Rastriya Swatantra Party has 182 lawmakers in the 275-member House of Representatives. It is challenging to run the parliament in a balanced manner to formulate laws, monitor the government’s activities, end political polarization and differences among the parties.

Timely management of bills and proposals, ensuring active participation of lawmakers and compliance with regulations are also challenging. The Speaker has to take an impartial decision rising above party pressure and personal political interests.
