Import of electric vehicles worth Rs 4.2 billion via Birgunj

Kathmandu. Electric vehicles worth Rs 4.02 billion have been imported through Birgunj in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year.

Import of electric vehicles has increased by Rs 2.37 billion or 143.60 percent in the current fiscal year compared to the previous 10 months. Information Officer at the Birgunj Customs Office, Udaya Singh Bista, said that 15,271 different types of electric vehicles were imported through the Birgunj customs point in the current fiscal year, which has led to a significant increase in revenue.

A total of 9,042 electric vehicles worth Rs 1.65 billion were imported through the border point in the first 10 months of the last fiscal year. It collected Rs 81.47 crore in revenue.

In the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, 657 electric cars, jeeps and vans with the capacity of 51 kilowatts to 100 kilowatts were imported. Rs 1.19 billion revenue has been collected from this purpose. In the first 10 months of the last fiscal year, six 51-kilowatt to 100-kilowatt electric jeeps, cars and vans were imported at the cost of Rs 20.6 million.

Likewise, the import of 8,867 electric motorcycles and scooters worth Rs 1.17 billion earned revenue of Rs 385.5 million in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year. In the same period of the last fiscal year, Nepal imported 4,834 electric motorcycles and scooters worth Rs 96 million. Revenue of Rs 20.15 crore was collected from the import of these vehicles alone.

Information Officer Bista said that petroleum and electric vehicles and spare parts worth Rs 31.31 billion have entered Nepal through this checkpoint in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year.

In the first 10 months of the last fiscal year, import of motor vehicles and spare parts increased by Rs 9.65 billion or 44.58 per cent in value terms. A total of 628 jeeps, cars and vans worth Rs 1.25 billion were imported from Birgunj in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year. The office has collected Rs 3.17 billion in revenue from this amount. In the same period of the last fiscal year, 855 jeeps, cars and vans worth Rs 1.81 billion were imported.

Likewise, 51,423 motorcycles worth Rs 7.32 billion were imported in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year. Revenue of Rs 7.9 billion has been collected from this amount. Such motorcycles worth Rs 5.21 billion were imported in the same period last year.
