Kathmandu. As Nag Panchami approaches, the number of people buying pictures of snakes has increased. Snake imagery, cow dung and grass have been put up for sale at Asan, Indrachowk in Kathmandu, Mangal Bazaar of Patan and Bhaktapur on the occasion of Nag Panchami on August 17.
According to the scriptures, on the day of Nag Panchami, there is a scriptural tradition of bathing early in the morning, purifying and pasting the picture of the snake on the main door of the house. After pasting the picture, pure cow’s milk, curd, akshata, vermilion, lava (roasted rice flower) and bel leaves are offered on it. It is mentioned in the Puranas that by doing this, lightning (thunderbolt), fire fear, snakebite and ghosts will never be hindered in that house. See the rest of the image:
