Kathmandu. Police have arrested those who extorted more than Rs 4.5 lakh on the pretext of releasing the arrested person on bail. The police have arrested two persons who extorted Rs 4.79 lakh on the pretext of releasing the defendants in a drug case on bail.

The arrestees have been identified as Hariram Giri, 42, of Tarkesh wor Municipality- 8 and Ajay Thapa Magar, 31, of Nuwakot district.

They had extorted Rs 4,79 ,000 from the defendant’s wife on the pretext of releasing one of the defendants in the drug case on bail.

After receiving the information, a team deployed from Police Circle, Singha Durbar arrested them from the premises of the Kathmandu District Court, , according to the police. The police recovered Rs 4,79, 000, three mobile phones and 7 blank cheques of Machhapuchhre Bank in the name of the defendant’s wife.
