अर्थ सरोकार

Kathmandu. The government is preparing to distribute identity cards to the farmers. Preparations are being made to distribute identity cards from Kathmandu soon to the farmers included in the list of farmers through the Center for Agriculture Communication and Human Resource Development.

Dr.

Sanjeev Pandit, an official of the center, said that there is a plan to provide necessary services and support to the farmers by distributing identity cards to the farmers from the rural municipalities where the farmer listing work has been completed. The farmers who receive the identity card will be provided with agricultural insurance, grants, relief, production incentives, agricultural mechanization, technology transfer, subsidized agricultural loans and other targeted agricultural services.

He said that the identity cards to be distributed will be important to make the status of production and agribusiness based on statistics on how much land the farmers grow, how much livestock they rear, what is the status of irrigation, and the status of production and agricultural business. The government had prepared and implemented the institutional and technical basis of the ‘Farmer Listing Programme Implementation Procedure, 2077’ and the ‘Farmer Listing System Management and Operation Directive, 2081’.

The center has coordinated with all the local levels to identify the real farmers. On the basis of the collection of data of the farmers’ cultivable land, irrigation, crop and livestock production, agribusiness, etc., they are also being listed.

According to the Agriculture Census 2078, there are 41.30 lakh farmers across the country. So far, more than 26 lakh farmers have joined the listing. The process of listing the remaining farmers is also going on, the center said.
