Kathmandu. The government is working on alternative management after 430 MW of electricity was taken out of the national transmission system due to the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa. The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation has started homework for alternative management after the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi River damaged various hydropower projects.

The Balaju and Chapali transmission lines have been under pressure after the Bhotekoshi flood disrupted the electricity coming from the Trishuli corridor. Spokesperson of the ministry, Mohan Kumar Shakya, said that the ministry has started homework to develop an alternative supply system. According to him, the Nepal Electricity Authority is working by forming a task force.

The ministry on Tuesday held discussions with the Department of Roads and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) for the construction of additional underground grids. The NEA has started constructing additional underground grids for alternative winter management.

Spokesperson Shakya said that discussions were held with the Department of Roads and Kathmandu Metropolitan City for the cooperation of winter power management with certain schedules for the reliability of underground alternative electricity grid in some places and to build more underground grids.

On the occasion, Kathmandu Division Chief of Department of Roads, Subodh Devkota, pledged necessary support and cooperation from the Department of Underground Grid Construction.

Chief of the Public Works Department of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Suresh Kumar Rai, said that necessary cooperation would be made by installing underground wires inside the footpath.

NEA Project Directorate Chief Durgananda Badiyat pledged to make the underground wires in the Kathmandu Valley more systematic and intensify cooperation as per the need for the management of winter demand of Distribution and Customer Service Directorate.

On the occasion, Munindra Thakur, chief of Bagmati Distribution and Customer Directorate, made a presentation on the load management and necessary works of Kathmandu.

During the discussion, member of the board of directors of NEA, Anshukiran Shahi, said that there is a need for high cooperation and cooperation of all bodies in managing the winter demand of Kathmandu. He also said that continuous coordination is being made with the ministry to address the pressure of electricity during winter through easy management.
