Kathmandu. The wholesale price of eggs has increased due to the increase in demand for eggs with the onset of festivals. The Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers’ Association has increased the support price of eggs after the demand in the market increased with the onset of festivals and winter.

According to the association’s president Binod Pokharel, the new support price of eggs was revised six days after a meeting held in Kathmandu on October 20. According to the new support price, the price of XL, big and medium eggs has been increased by Rs 200 per carton, while the price of small egg has been increased by Rs 100 per carton.

Pokharel said that the support price of XL eggs weighing 14.5 to 14.8 kg has now increased to Rs 3,900 from Rs 3,700 in October 20. The support price of 13.5 to 13.8 kg big eggs has increased from Rs 3,600 to Rs 3,800.

The support price of medium eggs weighing 12.5 to 12.8 kg has increased from Rs 3,500 to Rs 3,700, Pokharel said. The support price of small eggs above 11 kg has increased from Rs 3,100 to Rs 3,200.

The consumer price has been fixed at Rs 25 per large egg and Rs 45 per medium egg per two. He said that although the farm price has increased by Rs 200 per bag, there has been no change in the retail price paid by the consumers. He said that the wholesale price has been increased due to the increase in consumption in the market after the onset of cold with the festivals.
