Kathmandu. A total of 7,642 tourists from different countries have entered Nepal from Kakarvitta, the eastern border point. According to the Immigration Office, the same number of tourists have visited Nepal in the nine months of the current fiscal year 2082/83.
According to Tulsi Bhattarai, chief of the office, tourists from 81 countries have come to Nepal through this border point from July to March. The highest number of tourists who have entered Nepal are Bhutanese nationals. During this period, 4,154 Bhutanese tourists have visited Nepal.
After Bhutan, the highest number of tourists from the US, Thailand, Australia and the United Kingdom (UK) visited Nepal, according to the office records. A total of 1,612 tourists from the US, 525 from Thailand, 229 from Australia and 182 from the UK visited Nepal, said Bhattarai. He said that tourists coming to Nepal visit major tourist destinations like Lumbini, Pokhara, Kathmandu, Chitwan and Gorkha.
Not only visitors, tourists have also been using this border point to go to another country from Nepal. During the same period, 9,942 tourists left through Kakarvitta border point.
In the fiscal year 2081/82, 8,070 tourists had visited from here from July to March. The number of tourists visiting Nepal has decreased by 428 in the same period of the current fiscal year.
According to the office, 1,006 tourists entered Nepal through this border point in the month of March of the current fiscal year and 1,543 departed. During this period, 6,691 tourist visas, 124 relatives visas, 26 marriage visas and 36 non-resident visas were issued. According to the office, Rs 2,80,520 revenue has been collected from the issuance of visas.
