Kathmandu. In the first nine months of the current fiscal year, the balance of payment stood at Rs 731.16 billion. Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has published the details of the last 9 months of the current fiscal year. According to the details, the balance of payment in the same period of the previous year was Rs 346.23 billion.

In the review period, the balance of payment was Rs 5.10 billion as compared to Rs 2.55 billion in the same period of the previous year.

In the review period, the current account stood at Rs 618.68 billion. In the same period of the previous year, the current account had surplus of Rs 222.67 billion.

The current account in the review period of the current account was Rs 4.32 billion compared to Rs 1.64 billion in the same period of the previous year. Net capital transfer stood at Rs 14.5 billion in the review period. Such transfers amounted to Rs 7.71 billion in the same period of the previous year.

Similarly, foreign direct investment (equity only) of Rs 14.55 billion has been inflowed in the review period. Such foreign direct investment (equity only) was Rs 8.94 billion in the same period of the previous year.

According to the central bank, the total foreign exchange reserves increased by 30.5 percent to Rs 3.494 trillion as of mid-July from Rs 2.677 trillion in mid-July last year. Such reserves have increased by 20.8 percent to Rs 23.55 billion in mid-July from Rs 19.5 billion in mid-July last year.

Out of the total foreign exchange reserves, the reserve of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) increased by 27.7 percent to Rs 3082.41 billion as of mid-July last year from Rs 2.414 trillion in mid-July last year.

The foreign exchange reserves with banks and financial institutions (excluding Nepal Rastra Bank) increased by 56.8 percent to Rs 412.32 billion in mid-July from Rs 263.04 billion in mid-July last year. Based on the imports up to nine months of the current fiscal year, the foreign exchange reserve with the banking sector is sufficient to sustain the import of goods for 21.8 months and goods and services for 18.4 months.
