Kathmandu. Marin rural municipality in Sindhuli district has observed the Paddy Plantation Day in a traditional style by plowing 20 plows with oxen and ranga. The rural municipality organized the Plantation Day with the participation of Majhi, Magar, Newar and Tamang communities of the local indigenous communities.
With the increase in the use of tractors along with the modern farming system, it has become rare to plant so many oxen in one place. In the plantation program organized at the initiative of the rural municipality for the preservation of culture and for the continuity of tradition, the Roparas had planted Chhupu paddy in about 5 ropanis of land.
Along with planting, the participants also participated in recreational activities like playing mud in the fields, rubbing mud on each other, singing Asare songs and tug of war.
In Nepal, Asar 15 is celebrated on June 15 every year as the National Paddy Day and the festival of eating curd and beaten rice. Paddy plantation, which begins with the rainy season, is taken as an important festival linked to agricultural production, food security and Nepali agricultural culture. See the rest of the image:
