Ministry of Infrastructure Development discusses various issues related to automobiles

Kathmandu. The Ministry of Infrastructure Development has held discussions on various issues related to automobiles. A delegation led by NADA President Surendra Kumar Upreti on June 2 held a meeting with Sunil Lamsal, Minister of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, Kathmandu and discussed various issues related to the automobile sector of Nepal.

During the discussion, Minister Lamsal assured that the government would amend the Act itself to facilitate the suggestions received from NADA.

During the meeting, NADA President Upreti presented various suggestions related to the automobile sector of Nepal.

The discussion was held on the government’s recent decision to suspend the registration of vehicles of commercial importance. The government should reconsider the issue of removing the registration of vehicles that have already been opened and have been on the way, the current budget has made provision to impose VAT on heavy equipment and machinery goods, the government should reconsider this issue and implement a system of automatic exchange of details of imported vehicles through digital integration between the Department of Customs and the Department of Transport Management.

Likewise, the discussion also called for removing the compulsion of registration of vehicles in the name of dealers after the integration of customs and transport systems, provision for operation and transfer of vehicles using temporary self-declaration number to be issued through the government portal, preparation of clear working procedures regarding data sharing system and digital verification process and present status of the new Motor Vehicle and Transport Management Act, The meeting focused on the implementation timeline and clarity on NADA’s involvement and role in the process, effective implementation of vehicle import policy and resolution of practical problems faced by the industry, provision for representation of NADA in the Transport Authority and provision of vehicle tax only after the sale of vehicles.

The meeting was attended by Industry Secretary Krishna Bahadur Raut, Infrastructure Development Secretary Gopal Prasad Sigdel, Director General of Customs Development Shyam Prasad Bhandari and Director General of Department of Transport Management Roshan Gyawali.

Similarly, NADA senior advisor Rajan Babu Shrestha, general secretary Milan Babu Malla, NADA central working committee member Nawaraj Bhusal, NADA central working committee member and commercial vehicle committee president Bimal Sah and NADA central working committee member and environment committee president Pehesh Pal also expressed their views.
