Kathmandu. Indiancurrency notes of Rs 200 and Rs 500 will now be legal tender in Nepal. The Nepal Rastra Bank has made this provision by making public a new and clear provision related to the transaction and transportation of foreign currency .
As per the new provision, the Rs 200 and Rs 500 notes will be legal tender in circulation from November 9, 2016.However, notes issued before that will also be banned.
Similarly, a Nepali or Indian citizen can import, carry andexchange up to thelimit of Indian rupees 25,000 per person, {{} as per the existing provision.If the amount exceeds this threshold, it has to be verified by making a mandatory customs declaration.
The bank has completely prohibited Nepali citizens from carrying Indian currency to countries other than India or bringing them to Nepal from other countries.
