Kathmandu. The police have seized motor parts (Crown) that were said to have been brought by evading customs duty from a domestic auto workshop in Mainabagar of Butwal. A team deputed from Temporary Police Beat Mainabagar seized the parts worth about two lakh rupees.

The police said that necessary investigation was started after the legality of the goods was suspected. According to Prem Gauchan, president of the Butwal Auto Engineering Association, the parts brought by the vehicle owner himself were being used during the repair of the vehicle. “Initially, the bill was not demanded as the vehicle owner had brought the goods,” he said, “But later the police were informed after doubts arose.” ‘

According to the police, it has been confirmed that the materials were brought illegally after they could not submit the relevant customs documents and invoices during the interrogation. The materials were then seized and sent to the Area Police Office, Butwal for further investigation.

After this incident, the auto traders have demanded the concerned authorities to tighten the customs system. Vice President of Commerce Baburam Acharya said that such illegal parts will affect the legitimate business, increase revenue leakage and even pose a risk to vehicle safety. He said, “It will be difficult to control such activities unless the monitoring is tightened at the customs points.” ‘

The police have said that the surveillance has been tightened due to the increasing cases of customs evasion in recent times. In addition, all businessmen and service recipients have been urged to buy and sell goods only after following the legal process.
