Kathmandu. Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) MP Saroj Singh has been convicted in a house transaction case. A three-member bench of Special Court Chairman Sudarshan Dev Bhattaand Justices Umesh Koirala and Bidur Prasad Koirala handed down the verdict on the case. 

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed a bribery case against him on the charge of demanding bribe up to one-third of the budget for project selection. 

The Special Court sentenced Singh to four years in jail, one month jail term and a fine of Rs 38.50 lakh for the offence while holding a high post. 

The court also ordered the confiscation of Rs 38.50 lakh in his account. The court also ordered the state government to recover Rs 1.54 lakh as compensation from MP Singh and deposit it in the victims’ relief fund.
