Impact of two-day holiday: Tourist destinations more vibrant

Kathmandu. Tourist destinations have become more vibrant after the provision of public holiday on Saturday and Sunday was implemented.

Nepal’s Chitwan is one of the destinations with such importance of nature, culture and adventure tourism. Chitwan has already established its identity as an attractive destination for domestic and foreign tourists, especially for water tourism, wildlife observation, etc.

Senior tourism entrepreneur and president of United Elephant Operation Cooperative, Dip endra Khatiwada, said that the number of domestic tourists in Chitwan has been increasing in recent period. He said that the two holidays given by the government on Saturday and Sunday have had a positive impact in the tourism sector.

“Especially this season is hot in Chitwan so it is not taken as tourist season. “Tourists come here without any flow of heat to travel and use the two-day holidays for ,” he said. ’

Stating that most of the people have started using their holidays for travel in recent period, he said he had seen that people of the same group had visited Sauraha of Chitwan to Po khara via Lumbini for four consecutive days in the past.

According to him, the cooperatives are currently using 30 elephants for safari targeting tourists. Tourists can come here and enjoy elephant safari from 6:30 am to to in the morning, from 1:00 pm to to 3:00 and from to 4:30 pm to and from to {{}}.

According to tourism entrepreneur Amit Gurung, the domestic tourists will pay Rs 1,650 for the elephant for a period of 1:30 hours .He said that domestic as well as foreign tourists come to Chitwan to enjoy elephant safari.

According to another tourism entrepreneur Ashish Regmi, although the elephant has become an important tourist attraction of Chitwan, there has been no sale and purchase of elephants since the COVID-1 9 pandemic. Elephants have been transported from existing elephants .

According to him, it costs more than one lakh rupees a month to keep an elephant with two employees. According to him, an elephant generally needs about 25 kg of paddy, 2 kg of chickpeas, salt and sugar in a day.

He said that in recent years, Sau raha of Chitwan has been famous for its wildlife observation and water excursions. He said that due to the hotels, lodges, resorts and restaurants built for the tourists, there is no inconvenience of food and accommodation to the tourists coming here.

Chitwan National Park has emerged as a place of attraction for wildlife observation as well as bird tourism. Elephants and jeeps are popular for wildlife safari, wildlife watching, bird watching, boating in the Rapti River , observation of birds, crocodiles, etc. and sunset observation.

Similarly, observation of local Tharu rituals and culture is also one of the major attractions of the place. People of all age groups, from children to elders, come here for elephant safari and watch wild animals like boar, tiger, rhinoceros, crocodile, monkey and other species of birds. The greenery seen during the safari as well as the grasslands also attract tourists coming here.

Crocodiles, wild animals including rhinos and birds have been enticing in the Rapti River for boating in the river.

Swastika Bhatta, proprietor of Tiffin Home and Restaurant, said that hotels and restaurants in the area are doing well with the increasing number of tourists. “The number of tourists visiting Chitwan has been increasing in almost every season of late”, he said. Entrepreneurs feel that two days a week have seen positive change in domestic tourism.
