Byas Municipality earns Rs 24 lakh from waste sale

Kathmandu. Byas Municipality, the district headquarters of Tanahun, has started earning income by selling waste products. The municipality v. The company has earned Rs 2,471,553 from April 15, 2002 BS.

Chief Administrative Officer Sukdev Lamsal said that the municipality has earned income by selling various recyclable goods collected as garbage. According to him, he has earned Rs 623,167 from the sale of paper goods, Rs 1,198,512 from the sale of plastic products, Rs 309,125 from the sale of metal products, Rs 278,736 from the sale of glass products and Rs 62,100 from the auction of glass products.

A tender was called for the sale of the waste in the fiscal year 2081/82 after completing the necessary process and in the current fiscal year, 10 percent additional to the existing price, Tanahun Scrap Center Byas-1 has been given the responsibility of selling the garbage.

The municipality, which has been facing the challenge of waste management, has started segregating and collecting waste from homes. Lamsal said that the non-biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste is collected separately and the income is generated by selling the soldier waste.

“Since it is difficult to collect all the waste in one place, the non-biodegradable ones are being collected in separate vehicles and non-degradable ones in separate vehicles,” he said. Lamsal said that the municipality has been able to increase its internal resources after the municipality started earning income by selling garbage. According to him, the procurement of land for sanitation management in Byas municipality-13 has been submitted to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration for decision but no decision has been taken yet.

Mayor of Byas Municipality, Baikuntha Neupane, said that the municipality has been collecting non-biodegradable waste from the time of collection of non-degradable waste. Stating that they have not been able to find a permanent solution to the waste management system even after thirty-three years, Neupane said, “There was a problem in my previous tenure as well. The municipality is working for the management of the land. ‘

The municipality has been producing biogas by managing the biodegradable waste at the Gau Protection Centre in Dumsi. The municipality has been collecting waste from wards 2, 3 and 4 of the municipality on a daily basis. The municipality collects 11 tonnes of garbage every day.
