Govt directs govt to make CCTV mandatory in public vehicles

Kathmandu. CCTV cameras have been compulsorily installed in public vehicles in Siraha district keeping in mind the safety of passengers. Issuing a notice on Thursday, the District Administration Office directed all passenger vehicles to install CCTV cameras within 20 days.

As per the decision of the District Transport Management Committee, this rule will be applicable to the vehicles plying from Siraha district headquarters, Lahan and Mirchaiya among other areas.

According to the administration, this step has been taken to make passengers feel safe by controlling theft, misbehavior and other criminal activities in public transport.

According to the District Administration Office, the Transport Management Office, Lahan and the District Traffic Police Office will carry out regular monitoring to check whether the CCTV cameras are installed within the deadline of 20 days. The notice issued by Acting Chief District Officer Chet Raj Baral stated that action would be taken against the vehicles not abiding by the rules.
