Kathmandu. Extreme heat has increased in most parts of the country including the Kathmandu Valley in the past few days. Normal life has been affected due to intense sunshine since morning, hot winds blowing during the day and high temperature in the night.

The heat wave has been seen especially in the Tarai, Madhes and Kathmandu Valley. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the temperature is gradually increasing due to lack of rainfall for a long time before the pre-monsoon becomes active. According to the Division, the temperature rose as the sky opened and the direct influence of the sun increased due to weak influence of Westerly and local winds.

In the recent days, the maximum temperature in the Kathmandu Valley has soared above 30 degrees Celsius while it has reached close to 40 degrees Celsius in the Terai districts. Nepalgunj, Janakpur, Biratnagar, Bhairahawa, Dhangadhi, among other places experienced extreme heat.

Health experts have advised people to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, drink plenty of water and fluids, wear light clothing and avoid going out during the day except for essential activities. Special precautions have been taken for school-going children and outdoor workers.

According to meteorologists, the temperature is likely to rise for a few more days. Although there will be sporadic rainfall before the onset of monsoon, there is no immediate situation of getting much relief. The Department has urged the general public to follow the weather advisory regularly and take necessary precautions to avoid extreme heat. Look at the rest of the image:
