Chandra Prasad Dhakal has been elected Chairperson of the Nepal Federation of Savings and Credit Cooperative Unions Limited (NEFSCUN), an umbrella organization of savings and credit cooperatives across the country.
Dhakal secured 1,196 votes to emerge as the winner in the election held on December 24. The 32nd Annual General Meeting and convention of the federation took place in Kathmandu on December 23–24. His closer contender, Paritosh Poudel, obtained 1,019 votes. The newly-elected Dhakal has been working in the cooperative field for a long time.
The elected office-bearers are Damodar Adhikari (senior vice chair), Shanti Adhikari (women vice chair), Ghanashyam Adhikari (general secretary), and Deepak Thapa (treasurer). According to the election committee, the elected members of the board of directors from the women category are Sita Dhakal Poudel, Mandira Mishra, and Kamala Devi Giri.
Among the other elected members are Laxmi Sapkota (Koshi province), Shibha Kumari Raut (Madhes province), Khemraj Subedi (Bagmati province), Gopal Prasad Gautam (Gandaki province), Gyanu Poudel (Lumbini province), Bir Bahadur Raut Bhote (Karnali province), and Dipti Shahi (Sudurpaschim province). Likewise, in the open category, Devkumar Shrestha, Sushil Kumar Basnyat, and Shalikram Dhakal were elected.
Indraraj Jyoti Poudel has been elected the coordinator of the Accounts Supervisory Committee, while Hem Raj Bista and Durga Tiwari Sanjel got elected as members of the committee. A total of 2,200 delegates among 2,633 cast their votes in the election to pick the new leadership of the federation.
