KATHMANDU
Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has said cooperation and collaboration between the government and private sector are essential to addressing the unemployment problem in Nepal.
Addressing an interaction organized by the Nepal Training and Employment Entrepreneurs’ Federation here Thursday, Minister Mahat said professional and skill-based training should be provided based on market needs. Only demand-based training can create jobs and contribute to the national economy, he argued.
He stressed that the Federation could produce competent workers in the wake of the exodus of Nepalis to foreign lands for employment. It is worrying that the country has a shortage of both competent human resources and employment opportunities. Minister Mahat commented that although many institutions, including the Labour Department, the Department of Foreign Employment, and the private sector, were providing training, they were yet to be result-oriented.
On this occasion, Federation Chairman Achyut Nepal informed us that the Federation was providing skill-based training with the partnership of the government so that the gap between demand and supply sides of human resources could be filled.
