Umesh Prasad Thani, the executive director of Nepal Oil Corporation, has resigned. Thani had been appointed as the executive director of the corporation through an open competition in Falgun 2078, but he resigned 15 months before his term was due to end.

Although the executive director’s term is three years, Thani resigned after only 21 months. According to sources, Thani resigned from the post of executive director due to his active involvement in Nepali politics. It is claimed that he is active in the Nepali Congress and is currently the president of the Center for Democratic Engineers (Sidney), an organization of engineers close to the Nepali Congress.

During Thani’s tenure, the corporation not only became profitable, but he also played a significant role in employee management, for which the ministry has awarded him 90.5 points. At the time of Thani’s tenure, the corporation had paid off the remaining 31 billion rupees to the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC). Additionally, during Thani’s tenure, the corporation became debt-free by repaying 7 billion rupees in loans to the government.
